SUMMERFEST UPDATE

POSSUM TROT TO PLAY AT SUMMERFEST

One of the three bands to play during Summerfest is Possum Trot.  They were also playing at the first Summerfest last year.  We welcome them back to our Summerfest '08.

The Basics: August 23 6 pm to 9 pm, (Sunday, August 24 1-4 pm rain date), "Peel and Eat" shrimp and Kobe steak, a free wine glass, two glasses of wine, entertainment, parking on the winery site, advanced ticket sales only, $60 per ticket,   Currently tickets will be available as of Saturday, June 28 at the Winery only.

Summerfest will be different this year.  We will be working with Joseph Decuis, the ONLY 5 Star Restaurant in Indiana, to provide a wonderful "Peel and Eat Shrimp and Kobe Steak Fest".  Included will be two sides and dessert.  You will also receive a free wine glass, two glasses of wine and entertainment.  We are still working on the bands, but it will be similar to last year.  Parking will be onsite this year.  Tickets will cost $60 and are currently available only at the winery.  They may be available later at some other locations, so check back at our website.

Also helping sponsor the event will be Dry Dock Marine, A Party A Part, Northern Lakes Magazine and Audio-Visual Information, Inc. to provide a new twist to SUMMERFEST.  Bring blankets and chairs as we will sit out on the  back side of the winery and have shrimp, a Kobe steak, wine and music.  Watch this space for further information.

ANNIVERSARY WEEK- JUNE 27 THROUGH JULY 6.  AS ALWAYS, WE WILL BE GIVING AWAY WINE GLASSES (ONE GLASS FOR EVERY TWO BOTTLES, OR ONE PORT WINE GLASS FOR EVERY 4 BOTTLES).

We are now starting to bottle and prepare wines for bottling.  Many of our test blends are being put together as we focus on the next vintage.  If you are in luck, you may be able to see us tasting a variety of blends to determine how the next Syrah, DeChaunac, or Seyval will taste. As we determine the final blend, we do our cold and hot stabilization tricks, and get the wines ready for bottling.  We try to keep our bottling list up to date, so if you want to see us bottling, call ahead and make sure that we are still on schedule.  Sometimes life does get in the way.

The vines are growing rapidly, and we try to keep up against the weeds and the grass and the suckers (buds that come from old trunks), but the rain and wet weather makes it difficult.  We are also bottling what we can.  We will have a Dry Rose' and a Mango wine coming out as soon as we can get our labels approved and printed, and a Tramminette as well.  They are all wonderful wines.     See more bottle dates at  Business Hours and schedules

ART .....AT SATEK WINERY

We will be holding two art festivals this year, featuring multple artists at each date.  The dates are July 19 and August 16.  Each artist will have their own tent and display where you will be able to see the artist at work, and purchase the products.   Watch for specific details of who will be there at each date.  We'll post them as we get them confirmed.

SATURDAY, JULY 19   FEATURING LOCAL ARTISTS

SATURDAY, AUGUST 16  FEATURING THE ANGOLA REGIONAL ARTISTS GUILD

We anticipate paintings, photo art, painted gourds, wooden wine racks, lampwork beads, glass art, slumped bottles, custom castings, hand crafted jewelry, lapidary art, and more.

SHIPPING UPDATES

Shipping is now slightly easier to our Indiana consumers.  A US District Court in Indianapolis struck down parts of the Indiana law that made it so difficult for Indiana consumers to get Indiana wine from Indiana wineries.  While we still need all the information, including a statement that the customer is over 21 under penalty of perjury, and proof of identification, this now can be done by email, snail mail or fax.  No longer is a face to face required.

A note of caution.  The Attorney General's Office, at the urging of the Wholesaler Lobby,  has filed an appeal to the next level of the system.  Briefs have been filed by many parties, and oral arguments were heard Feb. 22 in Chicago.  It is not clear exactly how long it will be before a ruling is made, and it is not clear whether either or both parties might appeal to the US Supreme Court if they lose.  So we are still not out of the woods.  The whole world could change again, depending on the ruling.. This is because the Wholesalers want to control Indiana Wineries by requiring all sales to go through the wholesalers.  Their stated ideal in 2006 was that we would have to have our own wines go through them before we could serve them in our own tasting rooms.  And while that did not happen at the time, they are still trying to manipulate the laws of Indiana to, as the Judge put it in the last ruling, "line the pockets of the Wholesalers".  Honest, that is what he said.

Please note - the last time consumers thought the law was liberalized, the Wholesaler Lobby nearly got the state legislature to change the law in such a fashion that the entire Indiana Wine Industry was legislated out of existence.   Call your State Senator and State  Representative and tell them that you support your Indiana Wineries and that you want the right to have them ship wine to you.

Also, you could join VinSense, a consumer organization that represents Indiana wine consumers.  It is only through public support of Indiana wineries that Indiana wineries will be able to survive.  In the 2006 legislative session, we were within one vote of being legislated out of existence because of the legislation proposed by the wholesalers.
